Greg Mulholland letter to the council PDF Print E-mail

Written below is a letter that Greg Mulholland MP (Leeds North West) wrote and copied to constituents regarding our campaign. Given the findings of the court, Leeds City Council must be perverse in its actions against us.

Paul Rogerson

Chief Executive

Leeds City Council

Civic Hall

Calverley Street

Leeds

LS1 1UR

Our Ref: GM/HG

Date: 26/11/09

Dear Mr Rogerson

I am writing on behalf of a number of constituents, who have contacted me to discuss their serious concerns regarding Royal Park School.

I remain concerned both at the lack of any progress of anything happening at the former school – the closure of which I disagreed with and campaigned against - as well as the state of disrepair of the building. The Council needs to look at this issue as a matter of urgency and address both these issues.

I still fully support, as I have made clear in the past, the building being retained and being at least partly used as a community facility. Demolition is simply not acceptable and would be opposed vehemently by the community and by me.

Community facilities such as the school - which are not in abundance in the area – are of real importance to local residents. This is an area with a particular need for facilities that can and will bring the diverse community together.

I would like to call for the Council to sit down with local residents involved; they have after all invested time and money in repairing the building, something that is of course the responsibility of the Council. I think that it would seem perverse for the Council to seek to prosecute people who have improved the state of the building, and I would like to seek assurances that this is not the case.

Thank you for your assistance on this important issue and I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely

Greg Mulholland

Member of Parliament for Leeds North West
